Quest Albury on Townsend has taken the art hotel concept several steps further by partnering with leading Victorian art gallery Aboriginal Exhibitions. The new partnership sees a display of more than 170 original pantings and prints within a series of hotel gallery spaces. Also recently launched are the new Studio Art Suites – a collection of four premium rooms that include original paintings from celebrated Lockhart River (Cape York) artists: Fiona Omeenyo, Patrick Butcher Jnr, Silas Hobson and Rosella Namok. Offering an authentic and highly pleasing in-room experience, the Studio Art Suites offer a wonderful way for guests to connect with Aboriginal art.
Housed within the old Farmer’s and Graziers’ Wool Store building , Quest Albury on Townsend has undergone an extensive and impressive conversion into apartments and suites totalling 79 rooms.Popular with both tourists and regular corporate customers, the hotel offers a range of premium level studio suites; as well as one, two and three bedroom apartments that can accommodate nightly, weekly and or monthly stays.
The expanse of art displayed throughout Quest Albury on Townsend is extraordinary – and it begins as soon as you step into the foyer. Victorian Latje Latje and Yorta Yorta artists Trevor ‘Turbo’ Brown and Craig Charles are showcased with an exhibition of work titled Dhungala; hanging in the large level one atrium main gallery space. Here natural light floods in, amplifying the colour, light and movement within the paintings. Craig and Turbo’s work depict Murray River landscapes and its animals. Other works from Jack Macale (Kimberley, WA) and Michelle and Gabriella Possum (Central Dessert) expand the collection with their vibrant prints and large scale canvases livening up level two corridors and stairwell and lift areas. In fact there’s so much art throughout the hotel, it’s constantly surprising just how exciting walking the halls can be.
Quest Albury on Townsend features free undercover onsite parking, a gym on level one, a range of conference and lounge facilities; and the new Dhungala Conference Room featuring a substantial gallery of works expanding upon the main gallery exhibition. Connecting with Country is also possible as the hotel is just a short, two minute walk to Albury’s lush and delightful Botanical Gardens; and nearby Yindyamarra Sculptural Walk.
The new Studio Art Suites feature a choice of King bed, or King singles; a modern kitchenette with hot plate, microwave, Nespresso style coffee machine, cutlery, crockery, glassware, full size bar fridge; plus complimentary soft drinks and alpine mineral water. The rooms also feature large opening windows allowing the fresh country air to flow in. We found this a nice evening time change from the always available in room air-conditioning.
