The drinks menu of Limes Hotel’s rooftop bar reads ‘Scandal on the 5th floor’ and features a collage of tongue-in-cheek images married with quirky cocktail names and vintage graphics. Here an intimate crowd of Brisvegas fashionistas are decked out to the nines in clean white slacks and Havanas (the boys) and one piece Deborah Harry-inspired jump suits for the ever-so-hip ladies – ultra glamorous when paired with some designer shades. Appealing on this hot summer’s night is the locally crafted Constance Street Punch, with vodka, peach liqueur, passion fruit, mint, pineapple and lime soda. It’s a perfect thirst quencher for newly arrived hotel guests (the tariffs here include a free drink at the bar from 4pm and access to the rooftop’s two party-sized circular spas).
The expansive rooftop views now showcase just how much Brisbane has grown up, with a plethora of high-rise developments at, seemingly, arm’s reach. From this premium vantage point one could certainly ascertain exactly whose intimate late night office party for two is trending towards being perhaps a touch more private (get a room!). As the night unfolds and the urban trance pumps with live DJs, the verve continues to flow. Orange plastic flutes are everywhere and if it’s not a mango cooler, a lychee martini might get you in the mood for partying. We were sternly warned about the bar team’s favourite: the 1950 Zombi (one per person only!) – a three-shot rum explosion paired with tropical fruit juices – and yes it did creep up on this over-eager reporter. Weekend guests who choose to be tucked into a bed below would be wise to request ear plugs from the delightful night manager Diana.
On the upside, rooms are tight but very deluxe cocoons, and feature the best in relaxation-inducing creature comforts. The 24/7 room service is exemplary and the adjacent Alfred and Constance restaurant and bar precinct – a well-respected breakfast, lunch, dinner spot – is another action-packed party favourite bar option. We suggest you play harder and sleep later – perhaps even for an extra day.
