Melbourne’s most exclusive Japanese restaurant is genuinely hard to find. It’s down a laneway off Bourke Street that seems to become invisible when you start looking for it – however Essentials has the secret instructional discovery details listed here. And for good reason, because on Monday, 23 September 2019, Ishizuka will present a special eight-course kaiseki dinner celebrating the world’s most sought after beef, showcasing both locally sourced David Blackmore 9+ score and imported Japanese premium Wagyu.

A secret within Melbourne’s city centre, Ishizuka offers a refined kaiseki experience that reflects the pinnacle of Japanese dining in an intimate subterranean restaurant space. A multi-award-winning menu, Head Chef Hitoshi Miyazawa’s cuisine is meticulously prepared and exquisitely served, guiding diners on a journey through time, place and season.

In line with Ishizuka’s philosophy, Miyazawa’s menu will honour the authentic flavours of the finest natural ingredients, with Wagyu included in seven of the eight courses. The dining event is guaranteed to please, as we know first hand how at Ishizuka there’s an ongoing mesmerism that drags the diner into the carefully considered actions of Hitoshi Miyazawa’s food preparations. What’s presented as each final dish is both palate-teasing epic and visually spectacular.  Dishes include: David Blackmore 9+ Wagyu and Kagoshima A5 Wagyu with eggplant and leek powder, wasabi, salt, roasted leek and negi miso (pictured above) and Wagyu mille-feuille with seared Kagoshima A5 Wagyu, foie gras, celeriac, nori, tomato and toasted seeds (below). Seats are limited so serious diners are advised to book quickly.
